Art Courses for 2010-2011

Art 101 - Art 101 is a beginner course (grades k-12) that is based on basic sketching. Students will study artwork and major art pieces of an American artist and begin mastering the art of sketching what they see. Each class, students will practice this technique and will be given an assignment for homework to be brought in the following class period. High school students will receive grades and ½ credit hour upon completion of 75 hours of art, homework, field trip, and extra art time.

 

Advanced Art - Advanced art is a course given (grades 6-12) to students who are interested in using all art mediums including : oil painting, clay, water color, ink, jewelry making, etc. Students will study a world history artist such as Monet and a major piece of art. An art project related to the artist will be assigned. On completion of the course, high school students will be given grades and ½ high school credit.

 

Art Photography - Art photography is a course that is based on digital photographs taken while on local field trips to places such as Irmo Park, the State House, Trinity Cathedral, etc. Students are required to bring in at least 2 (8 x 10) photos of each trip. The purpose of the photos is to capture art through photography. Students will experiment with black and white, sepia, videos, and portraits, etc. This class is offered to 9th-12th graders and will  be given ½ high school credit upon completion.

 

 

ART CLASSES FOR HOME SCHOOL STUDENTS

Art classes for elementary-age students are now forming for the new school year. Classes will be held on Monday afternoons. First and second graders will meet from 1-2 pm ($10 per class); third – sixth graders will meet from 2:30-3:45 ($12 per class). There will be a one time $25 registration fee for materials and firing fees for clay units. The curriculum will pull from the national and state art standards, and will include art knowledge (art elements and principles), art studio (techniques and skills with tools and media), art history and world cultures, creativity (selection of art ideas and subject matter), connections between the visual arts and other disciplines, and decision-making about art (aesthetics). Classes will be taught by Jeannette Maybin (National Board Certified art teacher with 32 years of experience) on Wayne McCaw Road in Irmo. Student Art Lessons at Sparetime Studios

Hands on experience taught by certified art teacher. $35 monthly for weekly 1-1/2 hour classes.

Break Dancing Classes

Break dancing classes are offered at Rhythmics Performing Arts & Athletics in Lexington, SC. Classes are regularly $55 per month but a discount is being offered for home schoolers of $35 per month or for a punch card good

for 4 classes during the summer. Sign up anytime. Also offered are tap, ballet, jazz, modern, lyrical, hip hop, music lessons, art lessons, drama, karate for ages 4 and up, Fri. night parents night out, birthday parties, etc.

Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Converse College;

Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan.

Piano Lessons by Joshua

Homeschoooling Junior, Joshua Baghdady, will be offering piano lessons this year for beginning students. Joshua has studied piano for the last 10 years; the past 2 years have been under the direction of local Concert Pianist

David Edwards. Joshua will be offering piano lessons from his home in Chapin and may even travel to your home,

if within close proximity.

$10 per half hour lesson

$20 per hour lesson

Piano Teacher looking for beginning students.

I have studied music for ten years and have been taught and skilled by Mrs. Nancy Weston who is a graduate

of the University of Toronto and Julliard.  Mrs. Weston will continue to teach, coach and guide me as I build a career in teaching others.  As a student I charge $10 a 1/2 hour.
